Free The Red Matchbox 1960s French Cabaret Lounge Song

Song Lyrics

[Intro]
(Ah... ah...)

[Verse 1]
Outside the velvet door
Rain fell upon the stone pavement
You stood in the damp air
Searching for a spark
I held out a small red matchbox
Our fingers touched in the damp cold
One tiny flame flared between us
And burned straight into my heart

[Chorus]
Oh, that little red matchbox
That lit a fire in Paris tonight
Two strangers standing in the rain
Now caught in a wild velvet flame
(Caught in the flame)
Oh, that little red matchbox
We never stood a chance

[Verse 2]
The cabaret brass played soft and slow
Inside, the red wine was poured
You struck the second match for my cigarette
Your dark eyes caught the blue smoke
A brief spark in the alleyway
Turning two passing souls into one storm
We danced until the street cleaners came
Lost in the rhythm of Paris

[Chorus]
Oh, that little red matchbox
That lit a fire in Paris tonight
Two strangers standing in the rain
Now caught in a wild velvet flame
(Caught in the flame)
Oh, that little red matchbox
We never stood a chance

[Bridge]
Sulfur and sweet perfume
A quick strike against the cardboard strip
It takes only a second to burn
It takes a lifetime to forget
(A lifetime to forget)

[Chorus]
Oh, that little red matchbox
That lit a fire in Paris tonight
Two strangers standing in the rain
Now caught in a wild velvet flame
(Caught in the flame)
Oh, that little red matchbox
We never stood a chance

[Outro]
One spark
One match
Paris in the dark
(Ah... ah...)
We never stood a chance
